Now I am Free

Now I am free to let go.
Free to let go.
Words that both excite and give pause.
I am free to let go
Of all the pretense and working so hard to be what the world trains me to be.
I am free to let go of the compliance,
Of overriding my desires for others’ needs
And quieting my voice.
I am free to be big,
To full body stretch up to the skies.
My dreams rising to the clouds in a sacred prayer,
“May I be helpful; may I be love.”
I am free to expand out, my growth no longer contained and limited to what is comfortable to another.
Free to sing, to dance, to drum.
Now I am free to be me.
A vault of passion and ideas about to release back to the wild,
Unlearning domestication and years of being tame.
Enough. I have broken free.
Free of the cages and docility.
For a while, I did not see nor trust the freedom that existed before me,
Timid to step out of my enclosure
Conditioned to confinement.
Inhale followed by exhale, I begin to take a step.
Then, another.
Again, I taste the blood of being wild.
